Vacuum packaging is a packaging method that removes air from vacuum packaging bags before sealing. Shrink film is sometimes used to fit tightly with the contents. The purpose of vacuum packaging is usually to remove oxygen from the container to extend the shelf life of food, and to reduce the volume of contents and packaging in a flexible packaging form.
Vacuum packaging reduces the oxygen in the atmosphere, limits the growth of aerobic bacteria or fungi, and prevents the evaporation of volatile components. It is also often used to store dry food for a long time, such as grains, nuts, bacon, cheese, smoked fish, coffee and potato chips. In the short term, vacuum packaging can also be used to store fresh food, such as vegetables, meat and liquids, because it can inhibit the growth of bacteria.
